Blade Runner arrives in Falmouth from San Miguel

Steve Watson and Allen Spencer Smith have arrived safely in Falmouth aboard 'Blade Runner' which is Steve's Dehler 37, having finally completed their long term mission of entering the 2011 AZAB race (AZores And Back).

Steve and Allen have been meaning to enter the race which is held every 4 years for the last 3 editions, and commented that it's only taken them 16 years to get round to doing it!

On the way to the Azores, Steve and Allen started experiencing problems with the rudder bearing which was becoming looser with time. They also lost nearly all of the water in their tanks after a hose came loose. With these problems sorted, the second leg seemed to go well, and they are currently enjoying being back home with friends and familly, and no doubt a few pints at the Chainlocker!

Steve approached us at Solo Sails to build a mainsail for the event and we were more than happy to match the design to his current Genoa.

Well done Steve and Allen!

For more info on solo sails, visit www.solosails.com

Sam White beats solo record by 50 hours using Solo Sails

Congratulations to Sam White sailing solo aboard 'Comedy of Errors' in the 2011 AZAB race who just slashed the long standing current solo record by over 50 hours on his return leg from San Miguel.

Speaking to us in Falmouth Sam told us how pleased he had been with the performance of his family owned 'HOD35' which had recently been fitted with a new set of 'Solo Sails' built specifically to his specifications for the Azores race.

Andrew Wood of Solo Sails commented how great it had been working with Sam whilst designing his sails. 'Sam knew exactly what he was after and had a good deal of input during the design stage via our free 3D CAD viewing software, which made for a very satisfying job.'

'Our new state-of-the-art design software enables us to create highly accurate sails, at the same time as allowing the customer to view and discuss our designs from wherever they are, by seeing exactly what we are seeing in-house. This means the customer can make comments and any changes he may decide necessary before we commit to building the sails.'

We're very happy for Sam and his great results during the AZAB, he sailed a great race and we wish him all the very best of luck for the rest of his races this year.'
